PONGAL CELEBRATION @ SAMCE

event

The roots we come from can never be forgotten. To show the SAMTRANS family, how our ancestors lived a happy life rich in culture and health, all students and faculty of SAM Group of Educational Institutions came together for a grand Pongal celebration. To call it a festival wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The students and faculty, donned in all grand ethnic outfits, were in for a shock when they entered the campus this morning for a “celebration”. The place was transformed into a small village. Eatables and entertainment of all kinds from the good old days were available in abundance for everyone alike all day long. The festival started with offering prayers to the ultimate creator. After a procession to the school campus, our chairman Mr. Chandran and Director Mr. Abilash lit the fire for the traditional Pongal making. Soon after, stalls of all kinds were available. It really hit the nostalgia very hard for a lot of people in the crowd when they realised “kili josiyam” and “Javvu Mittai” were available in the campus. After a hot morning of enjoying eatables and making Pongal, the students settled in for a cultural programme in the afternoon. Traditional dances like “oyilattam”, “mayilattam”,”puliyaattam” and “Parai” were performed on stage by the students of all institutions. The story of Pongal was told to the young minds through “villupaatu”, our traditional way of storytelling. After a tiring day of grand celebration, students were sent home with sugarcane pieces and elated hearts to enjoy the holidays. “Tradition is not the  worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire”. This Pongal, let’s join hands together and burn all our negativity, celebrate positive radiance and shower those around us with love. Pongalo Pongal. Happy Pongal.
